  • Despite only one Feature win, the Kyle Larson Racing No.2 and Shane Stewart were strong early in the night all year, tying for the Series lead in Heat Race victories with 22.
  • Donny Schatz set Fast Time just three times, but still amassed an impressive 21 Heat Race victories.
  • Kerry Madsen and Tim Shaffer, who combined for seven Outlaw wins in 2017, led the way for non-Outlaws with Heat Race victories with 10 and nine, respectively. In 2018, Madsen won with the Outlaws at Cedar Lake and while Shaffer didn’t add to his 25 career Outlaw wins, he was dominant in unsanctioned action.
  • Jacob Allen won nine Heat Races in 2018 during his breakout season. That first win is coming.
  • 58 different drivers won a World of Outlaws Heat Race in 2018, which, despite the 20+ rainouts, is an uptick from years past. It will be interesting to see what the number looks like in 2019.

  • Perhaps the least known name on the list, Matt Vandervere, earned his Hard Charger after starting last at Wilmot Raceway after making the Feature as an alternate.

Takeaways

  • Jason Solwold's fast time at Skagit Speedway led to one of the most intriguing storylines of the season. Solwold had to change motors to his 360 for his Heat Race and held off the wolves to make it into the Dash, where he was able to switch back to his 410.
  • Lynton Jeffrey set fast time on back-to-back nights during Jackson Nationals, including on the second night where he was the last car to Qualify.
  • Andy Forsberg, who finished in the top-ten all three times he raced with the Outlaws in 2018, earned $2000 for his fast time at the 49er Gold Rush Classic at Placerville Speedway.
