Joey Saldana began his full-time World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series career in 1996. He won the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award that year and finished 11th in the championship standings. After partial schedules in 1997 and 1999 and an absence from the series in 1998, Saldana returned full-time in 2000 – he has been with the series full-time ever since.

Saldana is the first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series winner at I-96 Speedway (1995), River Cities Speedway (2007) and Deer Creek Speedway (2009). He has top-three championship points runs in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009. His winningest season to date is 2009, when he raked up 20 wins over the course of the year.

In 2014 Saldana surpassed Danny Lasoski for sixth on the all-time wins list. In 2016, Saldana finished the World of Outlaws with Roth Motorsports, adding to his career wins total of 99. One victory shy from the triple-digit milestone, Saldana has his sights locked on his idol Doug Wolfgang, who holds the fifth spot with 107 trips to victory lane.

I grew up in USAC country. I grew up racing USAC trying to be the next Jeff Gordon or Ryan Newman, trying to get noticed and make it big. Then I realized, owning my own team and trying to be a professional race car driver, that USAC isn’t a place to do that. Compare that to the Outlaws, where you can actually make it a career, like Steve Kinser. Everything my dad and I have is from racing, and I have been lucky enough to be a part of the Outlaws for 18 years.”
